Water Conservation Programs Abandoned Well Sealing Program The objective of this program is to seal abandoned wells throughout the TMCD in order to protect the quality of groundwater in aquifers, eliminate the safety hazard to humans and livestock as a result of unsealed abandoned wells, and to promote the importance of water quality within the TMCD. The TMCD will pay 100% of the total cost (contractor and materials) of sealing each well within the District. Abandoned Well Sealing Application (PDF)

Wetland Conservation Agreements This partnership program between Ducks Unlimited Canada and Turtle Mountain CD ensures long-term conservation of wetland habitat on private land. We are currently targeting for areas surrounding Whitewater Lake, however if your land does not fall within this region it does not mean you do not qualify for a Conservation Agreement.
Water Sampling TMCD covers shipping costs for individuals wanting to test their well water. Sample collection bottles can be picked up at our office in Deloraine. Shipments can be made every Monday and Tuesday.
Beneficial Management Practices Program The objective of this program is to assist landowners who are willing to implement projects on their farming operation that will assist with improving surface water quality in their watershed. The projects must fall within one of the following five beneficial management practices, as described with the Environmental Farm Plan: Farmyard Runoff Control – Upstream diversion and/or downstream protection. Relocation of Livestock Confinement – Moving existing livestock facilities away from water bodies. Wintering Site Management – Develop infrastructure to facilitate out-of-yard winter feeding strategies. Riparian Area Management – Improve “green zones” around rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands. Land Management for Soils at Risk – Improve the long term health of soils by taking steps to reduce erosion and salinity. |
